Imagine…On one eve of Diwali, you are standing by a riverside or on marine drive (I guess more people will prefer this) with your beloved wife n your child. Cool breeze blows on your face. You can hear the sound of children around lighting the crackers. You can feel the jubilance in the air. You see lighting n firework all around, one rocket (or any other cracker, something like that…..I know u can imagine it in a far better way than my words) going high in the sky and then….boommm… a blast n whole sky lits up to blue, red, yellow…… like a thousand iridescent candles lit in the sky. As if the sky is also celebrating the happiness you feel deep inside your heart. You ponder over this.….WOW n then 2nd one goes…boom, 3rd one…..n then suddenly someone puts one black ribbon on your eyes. wtf…………..you surely don’t like someone fooling around. “Hell I missed it”. I don’t like this you wonder. “Who’s this? Remove the ribbon right now”.
Any person can be an eye donor, WEARING GLASSESS AND AGE of the person make no difference. Persons younger than 18 years must have the authorization of the parents or guardian.
Now imagine someone puts that black ribbon on your wife’s eyes instead of your’s. The person might get 2-3 tight slaps or at least few abuses. Now imagine that someone puts the same ribbon on your child’s eyes. He/ She starts crying for help n I am sure u won’t tolerate any harm done to your child, then may it be for small reason like disturbing him/her from enjoying the firework.
I started to imagine how blind people enjoy their Diwali or any other festival. I have so many plans for Diwali……new cloths, lotzz of crackers, firework etc. A rich blind man can buy expensive cloths on the occasion of Diwali or any other festival but he can’t see himself in the mirror. God, I must thank you for letting me see all the beautiful things in the world.
You must have seen a blind man crossing road with the help of his pet dog or a white cane.
We have got eyes, we live normal life (I mean without any disability). After our death, our eyes are useless to us but can give a new life to someone else. If a dog or even a nonliving thing like white cane can help a blind man then why not us? Why not donate these beautiful eyes to the blind people n illuminate their world with colours?
Today is International White Cane Safety Day. Let’s take a pledge to minimize numbers of white canes…..by donating eyes. Let’s replace white canes with the SIGHT.
